The Heart of Caring: Dementia and Hospice. Hospice care is a type of health care that focuses on palliating a terminally ill patient's pain and symptoms and attending to their emotional and spiritual needs at the end of life. Hospice care prioritizes comfort and quality of life by reducing pain and suffering.
Unfortunately, many caregivers hesitate too long to bring this vital service to their loved ones. While it's much more challenging to know when the time is correct when dealing with dementia, it's a service we need to understand and utilize.
On the show today is Helen Bauer, RN. Helen is one of the hosts of The Heart of Hospice podcast, but she's also an end-of-life trainer, hospice advocate, and more. She's an excellent guest to teach us about hospice when caring for someone with cognitive impairment.
